New Delhi: Tensions have once again escalated along the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan today at 6:43 pm, Pakistan targeted an Afghan post at the Urgha border with artillery. Subsequent clashes erupted in the Zaka Khel, Wargha, Shahkot, and Landi Kotal areas.

Airstrike and Civilian Deaths

The Pakistani army carried out airstrikes near the Afghan border on Sunday morning. Kabul alleged that the operation targeted residential areas and killed civilians, including women and children. Pakistan defended its actions, saying the strikes were carried out to target terrorist groups based in Afghanistan, which are responsible for several recent suicide attacks in Pakistan.

India's Strong Reaction

India strongly condemned Pakistan's action. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that it condemns such attacks during the holy month of Ramadan, which claimed civilian lives. He said this is an attempt to shift the blame for Pakistan's internal failures onto India. India reiterated its support for Afghanistan's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence.

Pakistan's Allegations and Border Dispute

Pakistan alleges that Afghanistan has failed to prevent terrorists from launching attacks into Pakistan from its soil. This has strained relations between the two countries. Last October, a limited armed conflict between the two sides also occurred, killing 23 Pakistani soldiers and over 200 Afghan Taliban fighters.

Afghanistan Warns

The Afghan Taliban has threatened to take action following Pakistan's airstrikes. Afghan government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said dozens of people, including women and children, were killed and injured in the attacks in Nangarhar and Paktika provinces. The incidents are further escalating regional tensions and the security situation.
