New Delhi: The image of United States President Donald Trump has changed from peacemaker to aggressor since he assumed power. In his inauguration address to the nation, Trump said, “We will measure our success not only by the battles we win but also by the wars that we end—and perhaps most importantly, the wars we never get into.” He also expressed pride in the legacy of the US as a “peacemaker and a unifier.”

Early Diplomatic Efforts

Trump attempted to broker peace between Ukraine and Russia. During the India–Pakistan conflict, US intervention led to a ceasefire on May 10, 2025. President Trump announced the peace deal on social media, which was later confirmed by Indian and Pakistani foreign ministers. Trump even sought the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to restore global peace.

A Sudden Shift to Military Action

Within five months, the United States President took a sharp U-turn. On June 22, 2025, under an operation called “Midnight Hammer,” the US Air Force and Navy attacked three Iranian nuclear facilities—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. On January 3, 2026, the US launched Operation Absolute Resolve in Venezuela to capture and airlift Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, to the United States.

Global Shock and Greenland Ambitions

The world was shocked by this US aggression. President Trump then expressed his desire to take control of Greenland for national security reasons. However, the US President has not mentioned any timeframe for such action.

Denmark Pushes Back

Senior Danish military commanders have clarified that Russia and China pose no threat to Greenland. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has warned of serious consequences if the US uses military force to seize Greenland. She stated clearly that Greenland cannot become part of the United States.

NATO at Risk?

After Trump’s intentions became public, Frederiksen said, “I also want to make it clear that if the US chooses to attack another NATO country militarily, everything stops, including NATO and thus the security that has been provided since the end of World War II.” If aggression from Washington escalates, fissures could emerge within the Western military alliance. It remains to be seen whether Trump can turn his Greenland dream into reality.
