New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing tensions in West Asia, a ceasefire has come into effect between Israel and Lebanon. India has welcomed this development. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal clearly stated that India supports every effort aimed at advancing the cause of peace.
India has consistently adopted a balanced and pro-peace stance in international affairs. In keeping with this approach, India has termed this ceasefire a positive step. The government asserts that stability and peace in the region are paramount, as they have a direct bearing on global security and economic conditions.
The United States is credited with playing a pivotal role in bringing about this ceasefire. US President Donald Trump has endeavored to facilitate direct talks and truce between the Israel and Lebanon.
This entire situation is not confined solely to Israel and Lebanon; its roots lie in the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel. The hostilities, which erupted in February, have impacted the entire region; Lebanon was drawn into the conflict when Hezbollah launched attacks against Israel.
During this crisis, the Government of India launched a massive operation to safely evacuate its citizens. A total of 2,361 Indians were safely repatriated from Iran. This group included a significant number of students. Assistance was also extended to several foreign nationals, underscoring India's humanitarian ethos.
India has also affirmed that it is closely monitoring all developments unfolding in West Asia. Questions were raised regarding Pakistan's role in the situation; adopting a cautious stance, India stated that it is carefully observing all related events.
While the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon has undoubtedly brought some relief to the region, the situation remains sensitive. India's stance in favor of peace and its commitment to ensuring the safety of its citizens reflect its responsible global role.
