New Delhi: India on Monday welcomed US President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan to end the Israel-Hamas conflict, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi calling it a “viable pathway” for long-term stability in the region.
The plan, announced jointly by Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu aims to address the ongoing conflict in Gaza through governance reforms, security measures, and reconstruction initiatives.

In a statement, PM Modi emphasized that the proposal could pave the way for sustainable peace, security, and development for both Palestinians and Israelis, as well as for the broader West Asian region.
He expressed hope that all stakeholders would come together to support the initiative and work toward ending decades of conflict. “We hope that this plan will encourage dialogue, build trust, and create conditions for lasting peace,” Modi said.

The peace plan that calls for all hostages taken by Hamas to be returned within 72 hours of a ceasefire. Many details still need to be decided by negotiators, and the plan depends on Hamas agreeing, as they started the conflict with attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023.
Israel will release 1,700 Gazans detained since the conflict began in October 2023 and 250 Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences once all hostages are freed. Hamas members "who commit to peaceful coexistence" and give up weapons will be granted amnesty following the release of all hostages.
