Israel to honor Charlie Kirk
Jerusalem: The late American conservative activist Charlie Kirk will be honored by the Israeli government. Kirk will receive the award for his fight against antisemitism.
He was shot and killed about four months ago while speaking at an American university. The announcement was made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office on Wednesday evening.
Israeli PM's Office Provides Details
The Israeli PM's office stated that Charlie Kirk will be honored at the "International Conference on Combating Antisemitism" to be held in Jerusalem.
The event is expected to be attended by pro-Israel leaders from around the world, including Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and former Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz.
This is the second time the Israeli government is organizing this conference. Charlie Kirk was considered a staunch supporter of Israel. After Kirk's death, Netanyahu described him as a lionhearted friend of Israel and a defender of shared Judeo-Christian civilization.
Kirk Also Faced Accusations of Antisemitism
Charlie Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, appealed to the Christian and conservative population of America for support of Israel. However, he was also accused of making antisemitic statements on several occasions. Some of Kirk's comments about Jewish philanthropy and Hollywood led to accusations of antisemitism.
Last year, on Megan Kelly's show, Kirk also said that support for Israel has become so strong that it is now difficult to even mildly criticize the Israeli government.
