A global shockwave- Trump claims Pakistan is secretly testing nuclear weapons and vows the US will restart its own trials after three decades. Could this signal the start of a new nuclear race?
Trump claimed that Pakistan is secretly conducting nuclear tests
Washington: In a stunning revelation that’s sent shockwaves through global diplomatic circles, US President Donald Trump claimed that Pakistan has been secretly conducting underground nuclear tests and announced that Washington will resume its own nuclear testing after a 30-year pause.
The statement, made during a 60 Minutes interview, marks a dramatic escalation in rhetoric on global nuclear competition and raises serious questions about regional stability in South Asia.

President Donald Trump alleged that several nations, including Pakistan, Russia, China, and North Korea, are continuing covert nuclear testing operations. He claimed these tests are conducted “deep underground” to avoid international detection.
“Other countries test where no one can see it.
You just feel a little vibration,” Trump said, suggesting that the global nuclear landscape is far less transparent than it appears. His remarks mark the first time a sitting US President has directly accused Pakistan of ongoing nuclear trials.
The President also revisited his previous claim that he helped defuse a potential nuclear standoff between India and Pakistan earlier this year following “Operation Sindoor” a series of Indian strikes on terrorist camps in Pakistan and PoJK after the Pahalgam attack.
“They were going to have a nuclear war,” Trump said, crediting his “tariff diplomacy” for compelling both nations to step back.
However, India has consistently denied any foreign mediation, reiterating that de-escalation was achieved through direct military channels between the two countries.
Trump confirmed that Washington is preparing to end its 30-year moratorium on full-scale nuclear testing a policy in place since 1992. He argued that the US cannot remain the “only country” that refrains from testing while others proceed unchecked.
“You have to see how they work,” Trump stated. “Russia’s testing. China’s testing. We’re the only country that doesn’t and I don’t want to be the only one that doesn’t.”
Trump claims the US can “destroy the world 150 times over”
He emphasized that nuclear modernization is necessary to ensure deterrence and national security, asserting, “We have more nuclear weapons than any other country.”
Trump justified his stance by referring to recent reports of Russia and China advancing their nuclear capabilities. Russia’s testing of new nuclear-capable systems, including the Poseidon underwater drone, reportedly influenced his decision to restart US trials.
“They’re all testing,” Trump said, “and it’s only fair that we test too.” He added that the US possesses enough nuclear firepower “to destroy the world multiple times,” calling the move a matter of strategic balance rather than aggression.
