Moscow: A Russian passenger plane carrying 50 people has gone missing over the Amur region in Eastern Russia.
The local emergencies ministry said the plane, operated by a Siberia-based airline called Angara, dropped off radar screens while approaching its destination of Tynda, a town in the Amur region bordering China.
There are 43 passengers and 6 crew members on board the plane
According to the local emergency ministry, the plane was going to Tinda via Khabarovsk, Blagoveshchensk. It is near the border of China. Before reaching Tinda, it disappeared from the radar and lost contact. Amur Governor Vasily Orlov said on Telegram that the missing plane belongs to Angara Airlines. It had 43 passengers and 6 crew members on board. The passengers also included 5 children.
Disappeared while trying to land
According to media reports, the plane failed in its first attempt to land at Tinda airport. While trying to land for the second time, the plane disappeared from the radar. The plane could not even contact a fixed checkpoint a few kilometers before Tinda airport.
An accident has happened before
