New Delhi: A horrific truck accident in Southern California, USA, claimed the lives of three people. Jashnpreet Singh, a 21-year-old Indian man, is believed to be an illegal immigrant in the US. Jashnpreet has been charged with drunk driving and reckless driving, resulting in the deaths of three people. He rammed his truck into slow-moving traffic on a San Bernardino County freeway.

According to police, Jashnpreet failed to brake before the collision and was intoxicated. Toxicology tests confirmed his intoxication. Jashnpreet and a mechanic were injured in the accident. The driver was helping change a tire on a vehicle. The identities of the deceased have not yet been released.

Has been detained before
Jashnpreet Singh crossed the US-Mexico border in 2022 and entered the El Centro sector of California. He was apprehended by Border Patrol at the time, but was released under the Biden administration's "Alternatives to Detention" policy. The US Department of Homeland Security confirmed that Jashnpreet has no legal immigration status in the US. Following the accident, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (USICE) issued an immigration detainer against him.

The entire accident was captured on Jashnpreet's truck's dashcam, showing his truck colliding with an SUV. Police officer Rodrigo Jimenez stated that Jashnpreet was taken to the hospital. An examination revealed he was intoxicated.

Similar accidents have happened before
This is not the first case. Recently, in August, another Indian illegal immigrant, Harjinder Singh, was charged with causing a truck accident that killed three people in Fort Pierce, Florida. Harjinder entered the US illegally in 2018 and obtained a commercial driver's license from California.

These incidents have raised questions about truck driving by illegal immigrants and road safety in the US. The investigation into Jashnpreet's case is ongoing, and he faces charges of aggravated vehicular homicide.
