New Delhi: Britain has taken a firm stance following the US and Israeli military strikes on Iran. The government has clearly stated that Iran will never be allowed to develop nuclear weapons and has been supporting diplomatic efforts in this direction.
According to government sources, Britain was not involved in these attacks. However, Prime Minister Keir Starmer will chair an emergency "COBRA" meeting on Saturday to discuss the current situation and future strategy.
Britain stated that it has various defensive capabilities to protect its allies in the Middle East, which have been recently strengthened. The government reiterated its readiness to defend its interests and allies.
The UK also clarified that it does not want this crisis to escalate into a wider regional war. The government's immediate priority is the safety of British citizens in the region, who will be provided with necessary consular assistance.
The government issued an advisory on Saturday against travel to Israel and the Palestinian territories. Previously, on Friday, it had advised against non-essential travel.
