Amid this grand event, a major political controversy arose when Congress leader Jairam Ramesh claimed on social media that Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir was invited as a special guest in this parade.

He called it a strategic and diplomatic setback for India and said that this is the same general who had earlier made anti-India statements.
The White House denies
On Sunday, the White House issued an official statement and clarified these claims. It said, "No foreign military officials were invited to the military parade." The White House called Jairam Ramesh's claim "false and misleading."
BJP's response
After the White House statement, the BJP accused Jairam Ramesh of spreading misinformation without verifying facts and doing negative politics against Prime Minister Modi.
