Washington: US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iranian officials directly contacted him, urging an end to US military strikes on the Islamic Republic. Speaking in an interview with Fox News, Trump said the communication came as Washington intensified its operations in the region.

He also reiterated that the United States and Iran were “close to a deal” aimed at resolving the prolonged conflict in the Middle East, even as hostilities continued to escalate.

Iran Rejects Claim Of Contact

Iran strongly denied Trump’s assertion, calling the statement a “sheer lie.” Officials in Tehran said there had been no communication with the US leadership and accused Washington of attempting to justify ongoing military action.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said Iran would respond to what it described as US aggression and dismissed claims of diplomatic outreach as false and misleading.

Trump Warns Of Further Strikes

In the same interview, Trump said Iran had been struck with 49 Tomahawk missiles and warned of further escalation if Tehran refused US conditions. He suggested that continued resistance could trigger additional attacks in the coming days.

The remarks come amid rising tensions, with both countries exchanging strong statements and military warnings.

Military Strikes And Regional Escalation

Reports from Iran indicated explosions in several cities, including Bandar Abbas, Minab, Sirik, Kargan, and Qeshm Island. Iranian officials claimed responsibility for retaliatory strikes targeting US positions in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan.

Iran also alleged it had shut down the Strait of Hormuz and targeted the US Fifth Fleet, claims that were rejected by American military officials.

US Confirms Self-Defence Operations

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed continued operations, stating that additional “self-defence strikes” were carried out against Iranian military infrastructure. Targets included surveillance systems, communication networks, and air defence sites.

CENTCOM said US Marine Corps, Air Force, and Navy assets used precision munitions against sites it described as threats to both US forces and commercial shipping routes.

Diplomatic Outlook Remains Uncertain

Despite escalating military activity, Iran’s UN envoy said Tehran remains open to negotiations but will not do so under pressure or threats. The remarks highlight the widening gap between both sides as prospects for diplomacy weaken further.
