Tehran:  Iran has announced plans to create a new “exclusion zone” near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, warning ships entering the area that they could face sanctions. The move comes amid rising tensions between Tehran and Washington, putting one of the world’s busiest energy routes under fresh pressure.

Mohsen Rezaei, the newly appointed head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said the details of the proposed zone would be revealed in the coming days or weeks. According to Iranian officials, the zone would stretch from the area of the US naval blockade toward the Strait of Hormuz and further into the Persian Gulf.

Ships Entering Zone Could Face Sanctions

Rezaei warned that any vessel identified entering the area with the intention of passing through the Strait of Hormuz could be added to Iran’s sanctions list.
