Leh: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday inaugurated 125 strategically important infrastructure projects built by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) across India, calling the achievement a reflection of the nation’s growing capabilities and its commitment to enhancing border preparedness.

A Landmark Day for Border Infrastructure

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony in Leh, Singh described the large-scale rollout as a “major achievement” for the BRO and the Government of India. He stressed that never before had so many projects been dedicated to the nation at one time, highlighting the Centre’s continuous push for advanced connectivity along India’s sensitive frontiers.

“This inauguration of 125 infrastructure projects all at once has never happened before,” Singh said. “This milestone proves our resolve for a Viksit Bharat and showcases the government's unwavering commitment to strengthening border infrastructure.”

The BRO confirmed that the projects spread across seven states and two Union Territories have been built at a cumulative cost of approximately ₹4,737 crore, the highest-value project inauguration in the agency’s history.

Tribute to the Nation’s Heroes

Rajnath Singh dedicated the projects to the brave men and women of the Indian Armed Forces and the BRO, acknowledging their unrelenting service in extreme weather and difficult terrains.

“These projects are a tribute to our heroes,” Singh said. “The brave soldiers of our Army and BRO personnel work tirelessly for the country, in any weather and in any situation. Their spirit inspires the entire nation.”

He also inaugurated a war memorial, honouring those who have laid down their lives in the line of duty.

Shyok Tunnel: A Game-Changer for Ladakh

Among the newly unveiled projects, the highlight is the 920-metre Shyok Tunnel on the Darbuk-Shyok-Daulat Beg Oldi road a critical route leading to the strategic Daulat Beg Oldi sector near the Line of Actual Control.

”I have never lied in my life,” says Rajnath Singh in a fierce debate on Operation Sindoor in Parliament

Calling it an “engineering marvel,” Singh said the tunnel will provide all-weather connectivity, ensuring mobility even during harsh winters marked by heavy snowfall, avalanches, and sub-zero temperatures.

“This tunnel will significantly boost our security and rapid deployment capability,” he added.

Nationwide Impact

In addition to Ladakh, new projects were inaugurated across Jammu & Kashmir, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, and Mizoram, reflecting BRO’s growing expertise in high-altitude engineering and remote-area construction.

With these projects, the BRO continues to play a key role in strengthening India’s strategic landscape while simultaneously improving connectivity for remote communities.
