About 50-km traffic jam on Chandigarh-Kullu Highway, hundreds of trucks stranded

Shimla: The Chandigarh-Kullu Highway has been closed due to a landslide in Himachal Pradesh amid countinuous heavy rainfall.

Due to heavy rainfall hundreds of trucks are stranded on the Chandigarh-Kullu highway.

The highway has been opened for small vehicles.

The value of a truck loaded with fruits and vegetables has been estimated to be around four to four and a half lakhs. According to this, apples worth more than 50 crores are stranded. The Chandigarh-Manali national highway has been blocked at many places and passengers are facing a lot of trouble due to being stranded for hours.

Supply crisis in Delhi-NCR

Due to the trucks getting stuck, there may be a supply crisis in Delhi-NCR. A truck driver Gaffar told that his apples were to reach Sahibabad fruit market but due to being stuck in Kullu for 5 days, the apples are getting spoiled. A truck full of apples costs four to four and a half lakhs. In such a situation, thousands of trucks reaching Azadpur Mandi and Sahibabad Mandi are stuck. Land slide has happened at half a dozen places between Mandi and Kullu on Chandigarh to Kullu National Highway, due to which it is taking time to open it.

Speed ​​has stopped from one side

Ashok Chauhan, engineer of Kullu-Manali (National Highway Authority of India), said that due to the fast flow of Beas river, the national highway has been damaged at many places between Manali and Kullu and repair work is going on. Kullu resident Jai Bhal said, 'Houses have been damaged in Ramshila area near Kullu city and the administration should take corrective steps. Otherwise, this place will become history in the coming monsoon.'

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Manali Raman Sharma said, 'The connectivity to Manali from the right side has been disrupted. Four shops, two restaurants and a house have been damaged since Monday.' On Wednesday, a house collapsed following rains in Manjhed village in Naina Devi assembly constituency of Bilaspur district. However, no casualties were reported as the family had left the house before the collapse.

584 roads closed in 10 districts

Since Tuesday evening, Chamba received 51 mm rainfall, followed by Dharamsala 40.4 mm, Jot 38 mm, Naina Devi 26.8 mm, Palampur 22.4 mm, Kangra 21.6 mm, Bilaspur 20.4 mm and Amb 20 mm. The State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) said that a total of 584 roads are closed in 10 out of 12 districts of Himachal Pradesh and reports from Chamba and Lahaul-Spiti districts have not been received yet. According to SEOC, out of the closed roads, 259 are in Mandi district and 167 in Kullu. SEOC said that about 1155 power supply transformers and 346 water supply schemes were disrupted.

Loss of Rs 2,623 crore so far

According to the SEOC, at least 158 ​​people have died in rain-related incidents in Himachal Pradesh between June 20 and August 26, while 38 people are missing. So far, there have been 90 cases of flash floods, 42 cases of cloudburst and 85 major landslides in the state. According to SEOC data, the state has suffered a loss of Rs 2,623 crore in rain-related incidents. The local meteorological department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rains in isolated areas of three to six districts of the state till Sunday.
