New Delhi: Residents across northwestern India woke up to cooler weather on Wednesday after days of intense heatwave conditions. Late Tuesday night, strong winds and light rain swept through several areas, easing the impact of the prolonged heat.

Cooler Weather in Delhi-NCR

In Delhi-NCR, including Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram, winds reached speeds of 30-40 km/h. According to the India Meteorological Department, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy, with chances of light showers during the day. Temperatures, which had earlier crossed 42°C, are now likely to fall to around 36-38°C.

Alerts Across 13 States

The weather department has warned of changing conditions in 13 states. Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Haryana may witness thunderstorms and rainfall. Hill states such as Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are also expected to receive showers. Heavy rain is likely in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Western Disturbance Behind Change

Experts attribute the shift to an active Western Disturbance over the Himalayas. This system may also bring strong winds and hailstorms in some areas, raising concerns for farmers. Temperatures are expected to drop further by 3-5°C over the next two days.
