

Himachal Pradesh has so far faced nearly 210 casualties caused by heavy rains this year. Out of these as many as 112 deaths were caused by rain-related natural disasters.

Shimla: A continuous severe rains have thrown life out of gear damaging as many as 400 roads and several electricity transformers and water supply scheme in the entire state according to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), reports Dynamite News correspondent.
Mandi is among the worst-hit districts where as many as 240 road have been blocked and over 300 power lines have been damanged.
Just a couple of days back at least three people have lost their lives and one woman was reported missing after massive rains drenched Mandi district completely late Monday night, creating a flood-like situation there.
While talking to media, Mandi Deputy Commissioner (DC) Apoorv Devgan said, "The stretch of jail road has been affected by heavy rain. 3 people have died in the area near Jail Road. One woman is missing. The search operation by the police, NDRF and Home Guard teams is underway. The roads are also being cleared. Many vehicles have been piled up near the hospital. Casualties have been reported, along with that, many houses have been damaged."
Next is Kullu where about 100 roads are blocked, including the NH-305 at Jhed (Khanag) due to a landslide.
While in Kangra over 70 electricity transformers have become non-functional. Other districts including Shimla, Sirmaur, Chamba, Solan, Bilaspur, and Una have also reported several road blocks and utility outages.
According to SDMA, as heavy rains continue, restoration work is hampered in the affected districts. In such a situation alternative routes and temporary repairs are being used to maintain connectivity and essential services.
In the mean time a cloudburst has been reported in the Sharod Nala area of Kullu on Friday night. However there is no loss of life or casualties so far due to this cloudburst.
In the mean time the SDMA has urged residents to remain inside and not to travel unless necessary, more so in landslide-prone and flood affected areas.
At the same time, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted continuous rains activity in the state with heavy rains in many parts over the next few days. The Weather Office has issued an Orange Alert for August 11 and 12 in three districts and a Yellow Alert for the remaining districts.
