New Delhi: Delhi Police have registered four FIRs in connection with the INDIA bloc’s October 12 protest march towards the Supreme Court in New Delhi. The action follows allegations of barricade-breaking, graffiti and violations during the demonstration against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The protest, held under the banner of a ‘March for Democracy’, saw several opposition leaders and party workers raise concerns over the voter-list revision exercise and the functioning of the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Police Cite Barricade Damage, Alleged Graffiti

According to reports, police action relates to alleged damage to barricades and graffiti during the march. Officials are examining video footage and other evidence to identify those allegedly involved in the incidents.

Police have maintained that the protest did not have the required permission. Reports also said that protesters allegedly used a mini-truck to push through barricades. These allegations are part of the police investigation, and responsibility will be determined through due process.

The registration of FIRs does not, by itself, establish the guilt of any individual or political leader.

Opposition Protested Against SIR Exercise

The INDIA bloc’s demonstration was aimed at highlighting opposition concerns over the SIR process and the role of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Opposition leaders have questioned aspects of the electoral roll revision exercise, arguing that the process requires greater transparency and safeguards for voters.

The march brought together leaders and workers from opposition parties, including the Congress and the Samajwadi Party. Rahul Gandhi and other INDIA bloc leaders were among those associated with the protest.

The opposition has framed its campaign around electoral transparency and democratic rights, while the Election Commission’s voter-list revision exercise has remained a major point of political disagreement.

Investigation Underway

With four FIRs now registered, Delhi Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the demonstration and the alleged violations. Investigators are expected to rely on available video footage and other evidence to establish the sequence of events and identify those responsible, if any offences are confirmed.

The development has intensified the political confrontation between the opposition and authorities over the SIR exercise. Further details about the FIRs, the specific allegations in each case and the identification of those named or accused will depend on official records and the progress of the investigation.
