Mamata Banerjee files nomination (Internet)
Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee filed her nomination from the Bhabanipur assembly constituency on Wednesday, marking the occasion with a brief but energetic roadshow. Walking nearly 800 metres from her Kalighat residence to the Alipore Survey Building, she greeted supporters with folded hands as party workers raised slogans along the route.
‘Everything Began Here’: A Personal Connection
Addressing reporters after submitting her nomination, Banerjee spoke emotionally about her deep ties to Bhabanipur. She highlighted that the constituency holds a special place in her life, saying it is where she was born and raised and where her journey began.
Appeal for Statewide Mandate
Beyond her own contest, Banerjee called on voters across West Bengal to support candidates of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) in all 294 constituencies. She expressed confidence that the party would return to power with an even stronger mandate, building on its decisive performance in the 2021 assembly elections.

Concerns Over Electoral Rolls
The Chief Minister also raised concerns about alleged discrepancies in voter lists. She claimed that several names had been removed and questioned the freezing of electoral rolls, adding that her party may seek legal recourse over the issue.
High-Stakes Contest Against BJP Rival
The Bhabanipur seat is set for a high-profile contest, with Banerjee expected to face Suvendu Adhikari of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The nomination event saw the presence of several party leaders, supporters, and her family members.
Bhabanipur’s Diversity in Focus
TMC leaders described the roadshow as a reflection of Bhabanipur’s inclusive social fabric. The constituency is home to a mix of communities, including Gujarati traders, Bengali families, Punjabi households, and Muslim residents—often showcased by the party as a symbol of unity in the state.
