New Delhi: A major fire broke out in Delhi's Rohini area on Friday night. A massive blaze engulfed the shanties of Bengali Basti near the Rithala Metro Station, quickly spreading throughout the entire settlement.

The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) reported receiving the fire call around 10:56 PM, after which 15 fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the spot. Later, considering the severity of the fire, the number of fire tenders was increased to 29.

Several Hours of Effort to Extinguish the Fire

Fire department officials said it took several hours to bring the fire under control. DCFO S.K. Dua and other senior officials were also present at the scene. The fire was brought under control with the help of 7 water tenders, 12 tankers, and 2 robotic fire units.

According to officials, approximately 400 to 500 shanties were completely destroyed in this massive fire. The fire was finally brought under control late at night, but the scene of devastation in the settlement was heartbreaking.

Cylinder Explosions Intensified the Destruction

Preliminary investigations revealed that LPG cylinders exploded one after another after the fire broke out, causing the fire to spread rapidly. Panic ensued, and people started running out of their shanties to save their lives. Many tried to save their children and essential belongings, but most lost everything.

One Person Dead, One Child Injured

So far, one death has been confirmed in this tragic incident. A child sustained serious burn injuries and has been admitted to Safdarjung Hospital for treatment. The fire department stated that the condition of the other injured is stable.

Investigation into the Cause of the Fire Underway

Fire Officer S.K. Dua said that the exact cause of the fire is being investigated. Currently, it is suspected that the fire started due to a gas cylinder leak or a short circuit. Local police are also investigating the incident.
