New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a leader who delivers results, highlighting strong India-US relations. Trump described the partnership as “amazing” and expressed optimism about its growth in the coming years.
In a message shared through the US Embassy in India, Trump said, "Our amazing relationship with India will be even stronger going forward. Prime Minister Modi and I are two people that get things done, something that cannot be said for most."

During the call, Modi and Trump reviewed the ongoing situation in the Middle East, now in its fourth week, and its impact on global energy supply chains. The discussion focused on ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz remains open and secure a key strategic chokepoint for international oil shipments.

PM Modi, in a post on X, said, “Received a call from President Trump and had a useful exchange of views on the situation in West Asia. India supports de-escalation and restoration of peace at the earliest.”
US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, confirmed that the leaders’ discussion emphasised the strategic importance of maintaining unobstructed navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Both nations reiterated their commitment to coordinated engagement amid rising regional instability.
Trump also announced a 10-day extension of the pause on strikes targeting Iran’s energy infrastructure, until April 6, 2026, citing a request from the Iranian government. He stated that diplomatic talks with Tehran are progressing positively and criticised media reports contradicting the ongoing negotiations.
On his social platform Truth Social, Trump wrote that the extension is part of ongoing efforts to stabilise the region and that discussions with Tehran “are going very well.”
