Delhi-NCR and several states faced heavy rainfall on Raksha Bandhan, causing waterlogging and disruptions. IMD’s earlier forecast proved accurate as UP, Bihar, and Uttarakhand also received intense showers. While the rains brought relief from heat, they also led to flood alerts. Authorities urge caution as the monsoon remains active across northern and eastern India.
Red alert in many states
New Delhi: Monsoon activity remains intense across the country on 9th August 2025, triggering heavy rainfall and related challenges in multiple states. Delhi-NCR experienced heavy downpours this morning, leading to waterlogging and overcast skies in several areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier predicted rainfall in Delhi on Raksha Bandhan, and their forecast has proven accurate today.
Rain continues in Uttar Pradesh as well, due to which many rivers and streams are in spate. Cities like Lucknow and Sitapur have received intermittent rains, making the weather pleasant. However, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rains in 30 districts, including Lakhimpur Kheri, Agra, Mathura, Bareilly, and Mahoba. Apart from this, heavy rainfall is also expected in Bihar for the next seven days, especially in districts like West Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, and Bhojpur.
The weather has also changed in Uttarakhand, where a yellow alert for heavy rain has been issued in hilly areas like Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, and Nainital. Apart from this, heavy rain with thunder and lightning is expected in other districts. An orange alert has also been issued here on Sunday, which shows that the weather may worsen further in the coming days.
Temperatures are fluctuating in other major cities of the country. The maximum temperature in Delhi is expected to be 35°C and the minimum 25°C, while in Mumbai it will be between 30°C and 26°C. Humid weather also prevails in cities like Kolkata and Chennai, where the temperature is likely to remain between 33°C-24°C and 34°C-27°C, respectively. In hilly areas like Nainital, the temperature can remain between 21°C and 16°C, which is considered quite pleasant.
Thus, the monsoon is showing its effect in most parts of the country, due to which there is pleasant weather in some parts, and problems like floods and waterlogging are occurring in other parts. As per the warnings issued by the Meteorological Department, people are being advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
