Monsoon turns deadly in Himachal: 75 lives lost, over ₹700 crore in damages

Shimla: Monsoon rains in Himachal Pradesh are writing a new story of destruction this time. Continuous rains and landslides have created havoc in the entire state. So far 75 people have died.

According to the information received by the Dynamite News correspondent, 45 deaths have occurred directly due to weather-related disasters and 30 due to accidental incidents, such as road accidents, electric shock, and gas explosions.

A horrific picture emerged from government figures

The State Emergency Operations Center has released data from June 20 to July 4, 2025. The weather damage report during this period highlights the serious situation of devastation in the state. According to the report, 288 people have been injured, while hundreds of houses and public structures have suffered heavy damage.

Total loss of more than Rs 700 crore

According to the information given by the Chief Minister at the Secretariat in Shimla, so far the state has suffered a loss of more than Rs 700 crore. The worst affected districts include Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, Chamba, and Kangra. The state government has stepped up relief and rescue operations in the affected areas.

Landslides and road accidents took lives

Apart from 45 rain-related deaths, 27 deaths occurred in road accidents. Of these, Chamba district recorded the highest number of deaths at 6 and Kullu at 3. Other accidents like electric shock and gas explosions have increased the death toll to 75.

Livestock and agriculture also suffered huge losses

The natural disaster has not only taken human lives, but 10,168 animals and birds have also come under its grip. These include 10,000 poultry birds and 168 cattle. Apart from this, thousands of hectares of agricultural and horticultural land have also been damaged. Which has directly affected the rural economy.

The government announced ex-gratia

The Chief Minister has announced ex-gratia to the families of the deceased. Along with this, disaster relief teams have been deployed in all the districts. Special attention is being paid to the restoration of health, electricity, drinking water, and transport services.

Alert issued in landslide-prone areas

The administration has asked people living in low-lying and landslide-prone areas to remain on alert. The district administration is constantly issuing advisories, and people have been urged to follow the instructions of the administration and not go out unnecessarily.

The situation may worsen further

The Meteorological Department has also issued a forecast of heavy rains in the coming days. In such a situation, the situation is expected to worsen further. Emergency services are on high alert, and the government has already made arrangements for relief camps and temporary shelters.
