New Delhi: Eminent Jurist and 4th term Parliamentarian Dr Abhishek Singhvi has strongly criticised the BJP Government over the new FIR filed by the Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing against senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and others in the National Herald case.
Dr Abhishek Singhvi said that the National Herald case involves no money movement or property transfer, yet money laundering is alleged simply because Young Indian, a not-for-profit, holds AJL’s shares. AJL still runs National Herald and retains all assets. Despite receiving no dividends or perks, Young Indian’s directors face politically motivated ML charges expanded through a new FIR.
Dr Singhvi took to social platform X and wrote that in the National Herald case, no money moved and no immovable property transferred… yet we have politically malicious proceeding continuing. Ironically, Gandhis and other Congress functionaries as Directors of YI cannot get dividends, cannot distribute profits, get not one perk, yet accuse of Money Laundering.

In the fresh FIR, Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi have been charged with criminal conspiracy in the money laundering case. The FIR also includes Sam Pitroda, Suman Dubey, Sunil Bhandari and an unknown individual. The three companies - Associated Journals Limited (AJL), Young Indian, and Dotex Merchandise Private Limited have also been named in the FIR.
#NatHerald neither wine new nor bottle new nor glasses new. Hence my comment also old. One trick wonder of a case where no money moved, where no immovable property transferred yet money laundering invented upon creation of #YoungIndian as a not for profit co to merely hold shares…

In the FIR it is alleged that a criminal conspiracy was hatched to "fraudulently take over the Associated Journals Limited (AJL)", the parent company of the now-defunct National Herald newspaper.
Jairam Ramesh, Senior Congress Leader & General Secretary in-charge Communications targets PM Modi and HM Amit Shah on fresh FIR in National Herald Case.
Jairam Ramesh wrote on X that ‘the Modi–Shah duo continues to resort to intimidation and political vendetta against the Congress top leadership. Those driven by fear and insecurity attempt to threaten others. The National Herald case is entirely false and baseless, and ultimately, justice will prevail.’
