Reports indicated that several questions in the examination closely matched a “guess paper” distributed ahead of the test. Following inputs from investigating agencies, the Centre directed the Central Bureau of Investigation to conduct a detailed probe into the matter. The cancellation has affected over 22 lakh candidates who appeared for the examination across India.
The NTA clarified that students will not be required to submit fresh application forms for the re-examination.
Existing registration details, candidature records and selected examination centres will remain valid for the fresh test.
The agency confirmed that no additional examination fee will be charged from candidates for the re-exam.
Officials further stated that fees already paid by students would either remain adjusted for the re-exam process or be refunded according to applicable guidelines.
The NTA has announced that previously issued admit cards will no longer remain valid following the cancellation of the examination.
Fresh admit cards will be released before the re-exam, and candidates will be required to download the updated hall tickets from official platforms once the new examination schedule is announced.
The NTA said the syllabus for the re-examination will remain the same as originally notified for NEET UG 2026.

The overall exam structure, including subjects, marking scheme, duration and question pattern, is also expected to remain unchanged. However, authorities may introduce tighter security arrangements, enhanced biometric verification and stricter surveillance measures at examination centres.
Since the examination process will now be conducted again, the counselling and admission schedule for medical colleges is expected to face delays. The NTA has stated that fresh dates for the re-examination will be announced soon.
