New York: In a pointed address at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), India sharply criticized Pakistan for its role in cross-border terrorism and violations of child rights.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Nishikant Dubey, part of a parliamentary delegation led by PP Chaudhary, defended India's counter-terrorism operations under "Operation Sindoor" as a legitimate and necessary response to protect civilians, particularly children.

Operation Sindoor: A Targeted Response

Dubey emphasized that India's military actions were focused on dismantling terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), specifically targeting camps associated with groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed.

"We strongly condemn Pakistan's attempt to divert the world's attention from the grave abuses against children within their borders, as evidenced by the Secretary-General's report on CAC 2025, as well as ongoing cross-border terrorism," Dubey said.

He highlighted that the operation was a direct response to the Pahalgam attack.

He highlighted that the operation was a direct response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians. The operation was executed with precision to avoid civilian casualties and was portrayed as a measured and non-escalatory action.

Pakistan's Human Rights Violations Under Scrutiny

At the UNGA session on the Promotion and Protection of Child Rights, Dubey condemned Pakistan for its grave violations under the UN agenda on children and armed conflict (CAAC).

He accused Pakistan of supporting terrorism that undermines the objectives of the CAAC agenda and highlighted its involvement in orchestrating attacks not only within India but also in Afghanistan, adversely affecting children and vulnerable populations.

International Support for India's Stance

India's position received backing from various international quarters. The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) had previously identified The Resistance Front (TRF) as responsible for the Pahalgam attack, lending credence to India's claims. Additionally, India's defense capabilities, including domestically produced systems, were lauded for their effectiveness during Operation Sindoor.

Pakistan's Response and Ongoing Tensions

Pakistan has yet to formally respond to India's statements at the UNGA. However, tensions remain high, with both nations maintaining military readiness along the Line of Control. India continues to advocate for international recognition of Pakistan's role in supporting terrorism and violating child rights, urging the global community to hold Pakistan accountable for its actions.

India's firm stance at the UNGA underscores its commitment to combating terrorism and protecting the rights of children, while also signaling to Pakistan that cross-border terrorism will not be tolerated.
