New Delhi: More than 25 lakh candidates appeared for the Home Guard recruitment examination conducted across Uttar Pradesh, leading to overcrowding at transport hubs and examination centers in several districts.

Examination arrangements and security

According to officials, the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board is conducting the written test for over 41 thousand posts in three phases between April 25 and 27 at more than one thousand centers.

Political reactions highlight unemployment concern

Political leaders from opposition parties criticized the scale of participation, stating that such high numbers for a lower grade government job reflect widespread unemployment and lack of adequate opportunities in the state.

Large scale recruitment exam details

The examination is being held across 1,053 centres with strict security measures including deployment of police officers, metal detector screening at entry points and appointment of nodal officers in each district to ensure fairness and prevent malpractice.

Youth competition and job market

Weak job creation in the private sector has pushed a large number of young aspirants towards government recruitment examinations, where competition has intensified significantly due to limited vacancies and growing population pressure.

Public response and administration

Authorities have maintained that all necessary arrangements were in place to conduct the examination smoothly, while candidates and families expressed mixed reactions about the long travel, crowding and administrative pressure witnessed at multiple locations across the state during the exam days.

The scale of participation has also reignited debate over the employment opportunities and the need for broader economic expansion beyond government jobs as thousands of candidates compete for a relatively small number of vacancies highlighting structural challenges in the labour market and the urgency for policy attention towards skill development and private sector growth which could help reduce dependency on state recruitment drives alone and improve overall employment outcomes for the youth across Uttar Pradesh and similar regions experiencing high demand for stable government employment.

Officials further stated that the examination process would be closely monitored at all centres to ensure transparency and prevent any irregularities while candidates were advised to follow guidelines and report any issues encountered during the examination period with immediate response mechanisms being activated at district level control rooms set up for real time monitoring and coordination.

The recruitment drive remains one of the largest in the state in recent years reflecting both demand for secure employment and challenges in job availability across sectors in Uttar Pradesh among the youth population growing
