New Delhi: In a major development in the investigation into last year’s Pahalgam terror attack, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against seven accused, naming operatives linked to Pakistan-based terror groups, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and The Resistance Front (TRF).

The chargesheet, filed on December 15, details the role of the accused in planning and executing the attack. According to the agency, the individuals were part of a Pakistan-backed network and were involved at multiple levels-from conspiracy to on-ground execution. The probe also uncovered the involvement of local facilitators who allegedly provided logistical support to the attackers.

Crackdown Reveals Local Links
During the course of the investigation, the NIA arrested two local suspects, Parvez Ahmed and Bashir Jother. Their interrogation helped investigators trace the broader terror network, including funding channels, communication systems, and cross-border handlers.

Diplomatic Fallout and Military Response
The attack sharply escalated tensions between India and Pakistan. In its aftermath, India took a series of diplomatic measures, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and expelling Pakistani diplomatic personnel. Pakistan responded by suspending the Simla Agreement.

India also launched a targeted military operation-codenamed Operation Sindoor-aimed at dismantling terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). This was followed by attempted retaliatory strikes from Pakistan using drones and missiles, which were successfully intercepted by Indian defence systems. India responded by striking key military installations across the border. A ceasefire between the two countries was eventually reached on May 10.

Family Seeks Justice and Stronger Action
The family of Shubham Dwivedi, who lost his life in the attack, welcomed the filing of the chargesheet but called for stricter action against those involved in terrorism.

His wife, Ashanya Dwivedi, expressed gratitude to the government and investigative agencies for their efforts. She emphasized the need for exemplary punishment for those aiding terror networks, stating that such action is necessary to deter future collaboration with hostile elements. She also urged national unity in confronting terrorism.

Investigation Ongoing
The NIA described the chargesheet as a significant milestone in the case, while confirming that further investigation is underway. The agency has reiterated its commitment to identifying all those involved and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice.
