Jaipur: The Rajasthan Legislative Assembly witnessed a significant announcement on Friday as Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma declared that the names of three cities in the state will be officially changed.

The decision, revealed during the assembly session, involves well-known towns with historical and cultural importance. According to the announcement, Mount Abu will be renamed Abu Raj, Jahazpur will become Yagyapur, and Kama will now be called Kamvan. The move has quickly drawn public attention as these places are closely associated with Rajasthan’s heritage, tourism and religious identity.

Mount Abu To Be Known As Abu Raj

Among the announced changes, the renaming of Mount Abu is the most notable. Located in the Aravalli Range, Mount Abu is the only hill station in Rajasthan and one of the state’s most visited tourist destinations.

The town is known for its pleasant climate, scenic lakes and lush green surroundings—features that make it a popular retreat in the otherwise arid landscape of the state. It also holds religious significance due to its temples and pilgrimage sites, attracting visitors throughout the year.

Historic Jahazpur Renamed As Yagyapur

The town of Jahazpur, situated in Bhilwara district, will be renamed Yagyapur under the new proposal.

Jahazpur is widely recognised for its rich historical legacy and cultural heritage. The town has deep connections with Rajput history and features several ancient temples, stepwells and heritage structures that reflect its medieval past.

Kama To Be Called Kamvan

Another change announced by the government concerns Kama, a town located in Bharatpur district. It will now be officially known as Kamvan.

Kama is closely associated with the Braj cultural region and holds religious importance because of its proximity to several pilgrimage sites linked to Krishna. The area attracts devotees and tourists interested in the spiritual traditions of the Braj belt.

Decision Sparks Public Interest

The proposed name changes are expected to undergo official administrative procedures before being fully implemented. While the announcement has generated curiosity and debate, the government says the move reflects cultural heritage and historical identity.

With Mount Abu, Jahazpur and Kama being well-known towns, the renaming decision is likely to remain a topic of public discussion in the coming days.
