Nalanda: Ancient Nalanda Mahavihara is one of the greatest centres of learning in the world, said Dr. P.K. Mishra, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He made these remarks while addressing the Third Convocation Ceremony of Nalanda University in Rajgir, Bihar, as the Chief Guest.
A total of 219 students from the 2024-26 batch were awarded degrees during the ceremony. The graduating students represented 14 countries from across the world, including Vietnam, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, and several other nations.

He stated that while some universities remain mere institutions, others become symbols of the character of nations. Nalanda University, he said, is also a symbol of civilisation. Referring to the university’s new campus, he noted that it was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Dr. Mishra further said that technology can provide instant answers to questions, but it cannot teach ethical responsibility and constructive conduct. Nor can it fully understand human suffering, dignity, and aspirations. He added that civilizations decline when they become limited to collecting information and lose the ability to reflect and think independently.

The ceremony was attended by Bihar Governor Lt. Gen. Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd.) and Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, Rudrendra Tandon, as Guests of Honour.
Vice Chancellor Professor Sachin Chaturvedi felicitated the distinguished guests during the event. Following the convocation ceremony, Nalanda University also inaugurated the “Kautilya Global Centre for State Capacity.”
Established with support from the World Bank, the Centre aims to promote globally informed perspectives, ethical values, and future-oriented approaches in the fields of state capacity and public leadership.
