New Delhi: The political landscape across India is witnessing a flurry of government formations and cabinet expansions. Key states are set to see new administrations take office, signaling significant shifts ahead of the monsoon session.

Bengal Set for Historic BJP Swearing-In on May 9

For the first time in independent India, the BJP is poised to hold its swearing-in ceremony in West Bengal on May 9, marking a decisive victory in the state. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, credited as the architect of the party’s landslide win, will serve as the chief central observer for the legislative party meeting to select the new Chief Minister. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will assist as co-observer.

Suvendu Adhikari, who defeated Mamata Banerjee in both Nandigram and Bhabanipur, is the frontrunner to become Chief Minister. The BJP captured 207 out of 293 assembly seats, reversing the 2021 outcome where the Trinamool Congress (TMC) had secured 215 seats.

The swearing-in is scheduled on Rabindranath Tagore’s 165th birth anniversary, symbolically linking the ceremony to Bengal’s cultural heritage. The event, to be held in an open ground, will host Prime Minister Narendra Modi, NDA Chief Ministers, Union Ministers, and two dozen state ministers taking oath.

Assam Government Formation After May 10

In Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who led the BJP to a third consecutive victory, is set for another term. JP Nadda will be the central observer, with Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini as co-observer. The government formation is expected after May 10.

Tamil Nadu: Vijay to Take Oath Tomorrow, Stalin Resigns

TVK's Vijay will be sworn in as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 7 at JLN Stadium, Chennai. Vijay has claimed support from the Congress to bridge the 10-seat gap in the 234-member assembly. DMK Chief Minister MK Stalin has resigned, with Congress’s willingness to back TVK drawing sharp criticism from DMK leaders.

Bihar Cabinet Expansion Tomorrow

The BJP and JD(U) have finalized plans for Bihar’s cabinet expansion. Samrat Chaudhary and other ministers are scheduled to take oath on May 7, completing the new lineup.

UP and Madhya Pradesh: Cabinet Updates

In Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi Adityanath government is expected to fill six vacant ministerial posts as part of a final cabinet expansion this month. In Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Mohan Lal Yadav is reviewing ministerial performance between May 8 and May 10, raising speculation about a potential expansion. Currently, four ministerial posts remain vacant.

With multiple states preparing for leadership transitions and cabinet reshuffles, India’s political scene is bracing for a decisive phase of governance and strategic realignments.
