IMD warns of heavy rain in several state
New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh warning of worsening weather conditions across 17 states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Punjab, for today, June 13.
The next 24 hours are expected to be critical, with heavy rain, thunderstorms, and squally winds reaching speeds of up to 80 km/h in some regions.
The IMD has attributed the sudden change in weather to a cyclonic circulation developing in the lower atmosphere over northern Haryana and southeastern Rajasthan.
Authorities have advised people to remain indoors and exercise caution due to the risk of strong winds, reduced visibility, and local disruptions.
Delhi-NCR: Dust Storms and Moderate Rain Likely
Delhi and adjoining NCR regions are expected to witness cloudy skies, moderate rainfall, and gusty winds of 40–50 km/h. While the rain may bring temporary relief from heat, visibility on roads could drop significantly. The maximum temperature is likely to remain around 37°C, with a minimum of 27°C.
Uttar Pradesh and Bihar Under Yellow Alert
A Yellow Alert has been issued across several districts in Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Meerut, Agra, Prayagraj, Varanasi, and Gorakhpur. Lucknow may record a high of around 38°C.
In Bihar, thunderstorms accompanied by strong squalls of up to 70 km/h are expected across 21 districts, including Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur, and Purnia. Patna is likely to see a maximum temperature of 37°C and a minimum of 29°C.
Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh: Storms and Hail Risk
Jharkhand may experience thunderstorms with winds reaching 65–70 km/h, affecting areas such as Ranchi, Jamshedpur, and Palamu.
In Madhya Pradesh, heavy rain and possible hailstorms have been forecast in several districts, including Bhopal, Indore, and Chhatarpur. Bhopal is expected to record a maximum temperature of around 34°C.
Hilly Regions on Alert: Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, J&K
Hilly states including Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir are also on alert for heavy rain and stormy winds. Popular tourist destinations such as Nainital, Shimla, Manali, and Srinagar may experience disrupted conditions.
Manali is expected to remain extremely cold, with temperatures ranging between 2°C and 11°C. Authorities have warned of possible uprooting of trees and localized damage due to strong winds.
Eastern India May See Severe Gusts
Eastern states are also likely to face intense storm activity, with winds strong enough to potentially uproot trees in some areas. Residents have been advised to stay alert as conditions may worsen further over the next 24 hours.
