Weather department expects thunderstorm and rain in Delhi-NCR
New Delhi: Over the last 24 hours, Delhi-NCR experienced mild sunshine, though residents felt a sense of humidity. Winds blew at speeds of 10–15 km/h. Temperatures hovered around 30–31°C, making the weather feel somewhat uncomfortable.
The weather is poised to undergo a complete transformation starting today. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a spell of rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms is set to begin in Delhi-NCR. This will lead to a drop in temperatures and provide relief from the heat.
According to scientists at Skymet Weather, a significant change in weather patterns is expected across the country over the next three days. Heavy rainfall and snowfall are likely in the hilly regions.
The IMD has issued a 'Yellow Alert' for March 19 and 20. On March 19, rain could occur at any time during the afternoon or evening. On March 20, there remains a possibility of rain and thunderstorms across Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad.
During this period, strong winds gusting at speeds of 30–50 km/h are expected. Several areas may also witness dust storms and light hailstorms. Residents have been advised to exercise caution.
Following the rainfall, both maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to decline. The weather will become cooler and more pleasant, bringing a temporary respite from the March heat.
On March 21 and 22, the skies are expected to remain overcast. Temperatures are likely to hover around a maximum of 30°C and a minimum of 16°C. This indicates that the coming days will not be excessively hot.
