With monsoon retreating, India faces a weather twist—snow blankets the hills, plains feel the chill, and southern states brace for storms. Pollution in Delhi worsens. Stay alert as winter arrives early across the country.
Snowfall, Cold Waves and Rain Grip the Nation
New Delhi: The weather in India is rapidly changing. With the departure of the monsoon, winter has begun to show its strength. Weather conditions vary across different parts of the country, but one thing is clear: winter is not far away.
Temperatures in North India have gradually begun to fall. Minimum temperatures are being recorded below 20 degrees Celsius in many places, leading to a mild chill in the morning and evening. The mild chill will increase further by Diwali. Meanwhile, maximum temperatures are also below normal.
Weather Update: No rain expected till Diwali; dry spell till October 20 brings cheer to farmers
With the waning influence of the Western Disturbance, there is no possibility of rain in North India at present. The weather will remain dry, leading to dew at night and a cool experience. The sky will remain clear or lightly cloudy in Delhi, NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, but there is no alert for heavy rain.
The maximum temperature in Delhi and surrounding areas is expected to be 30–31 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature 19–20 degrees Celsius. This will make the weather pleasant, but a slight chill will be felt in the early morning. Night temperatures may reach 18 degrees Celsius in Noida, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram.
Delhi Enjoys Its First True Autumn Day
Westerly winds will blow in Uttar Pradesh until October 17th, and the weather will remain dry. Clouds may remain in Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Jhansi, but there will be no rain. The monsoon has also returned to Bihar, and most districts will experience sunshine.
Snowfall will intensify this week in the high-altitude areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh. Temperatures in Lahaul-Spiti have reached -1 degrees Celsius, while in Jammu and Kashmir it has reached 2 degrees Celsius. This is likely to increase the cold in the plains as well.
With the change in weather, pollution has started increasing in Delhi. On Sunday, the AQI was 164, which falls in the moderate category. The situation could worsen due to firecrackers around Diwali. It is expected to reach the 'severe' category in December and January.
Rain is likely to occur between October 14 and 20 in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, and parts of West Bengal. Heavy rain and storms are also expected in South India (Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh).

Rain is also expected in northeastern states such as Assam, Nagaland, and Meghalaya. The weather is rapidly changing across the country. Snowfall in the mountains, cold in the plains, and heavy rain in South India have begun.
Therefore, people should remain vigilant, especially regarding pollution and transportation.
