Modi govt accepts Mamata Banerjee govt’s request: IAS Dr Manoj Pant (WB:1991) gets 6-month extension, will now serve as West Bengal Chief Secretary from 1 July to 31 December 2025.

Kolkata: Senior IAS officer Dr. Manoj Pant has once again been entrusted with the responsibility of the post of Chief Secretary of West Bengal. The central government has approved his extension of service. The Mamata government of the state had recommended the extension of service to the central government, which has been approved by the central government, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
Who is Dr. Manoj Pant
The new Chief Secretary of West Bengal, Dr. Manoj Pant is a 1991 batch IAS officer of West Bengal cadre. Earlier he was working as Additional Chief Secretary in the Irrigation and Waterways Department in West Bengal. He has extensive administrative experience and a track record of strengthening governance.
Dr. Manoj Pant hails from Hiradungri, Almora, Uttarakhand. His father Dharmanand Pant was a school teacher. His mother's name was Revati Pant. Both have passed away. It is said that father Dharmanand Pant played an important role in making his son successful. Dr. Pant inherited education and discipline. This became the basis of his achievements. Along with education, he learned to follow perseverance, hard work and honesty from his father.
Schooling in Ghorakhal, BSc from Nainital
Dr. Manoj Pant's early education started from Sainik School, Ghorakhal, where he was also the school captain. After that he obtained a BSc degree from DSB College Nainital. He also obtained a master's degree in Applied Geology from IIT Roorkee. He also received a gold medal for securing a distinction.
He was also the personal secretary of Dr. Pranab Mukherjee
Dr. Manoj Pant also completed his MA in Public Administration from Syracuse University, USA in the year 2007. After this, he completed his PhD from Kolkata University in 2018.
Dr. Manoj Pant joined the IAS in the West Bengal cadre in the year 1991. He served as the District Magistrate of Murshidabad and N24 Parganas. He also worked as the Private Secretary to the then Finance Minister Dr. Pranab Mukherjee at the Centre and as a Senior Advisor at the World Bank in Washington DC.
