New Delhi: Rain and snowfall continued in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, while the plains recorded a slight increase in minimum temperatures. The changing weather brought some relief from the harsh winter and cold wave. The intensity of fog has also decreased in many areas. However, this relief is said to be temporary, as the weather may change again in the coming days due to the activation of western disturbances.

Slight Increase in Temperature

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature in Srinagar was recorded at minus 1.2 degrees Celsius, up from minus 4.7 degrees Celsius the previous day. Amritsar in Punjab recorded a temperature of 2.9 degrees Celsius, which is higher than before, although it still remains one degree below normal.
Bhiwani in Haryana was the coldest, with a minimum temperature of 3 degrees, while Gurugram recorded 5.5 degrees. The minimum temperature in Delhi was 7.7 degrees Celsius. The cold wave has weakened in Rajasthan, with minimum temperatures rising above 10 degrees Celsius in most cities. Alwar recorded the lowest at 7.2 degrees Celsius, while Sirohi, Sriganganagar, Bikaner, and Nagaur recorded temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius.

Fog's Impact Reduced

According to the IMD, areas affected by dense fog have also seen a reduction. However, dense to very dense fog persisted in some areas during the morning. Visibility dropped below 50 meters in isolated areas of Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh, along with parts of Punjab and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Visibility ranged from 50 to 199 meters in some areas of eastern Rajasthan, Bihar, and Meghalaya. Visibility dropped to zero meters in some areas of Amritsar, Ayodhya, Fursganaj, and Lucknow.

Next seven days: Rain and snowfall warnings

Due to the influence of western disturbances, light to moderate rain and snowfall is expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh between January 20 and 22. The weather in these areas may then become more active between January 22 and 24. A warning of heavy snowfall has been issued, particularly in the higher reaches of Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh on January 23, which is likely to disrupt normal life. and traffic.
