New Delhi: India's first bullet train will travel between Mumbai and Ahmedabad in approximately two hours and seven minutes. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced that the 50-kilometer high-speed rail corridor between Surat and Bilimora in Gujarat will be operational by 2027, while the entire Mumbai-Ahmedabad route will be operational by 2029.
The Railway Minister recently inspected the bullet train project in the Saroli area of Surat, where India's first high-speed rail turnout (track change facility) is being constructed. This turnout's unique feature is that trains can turn here at speeds of up to 320 kilometers per hour.

The minister stated that overall progress is very good, and the Surat-Bilimora section will be opened by 2027. The Thane-Ahmedabad section will then be operational by 2028, and the entire Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail route will be operational by 2029.
Surat station is a key part of this project. Trains will stop here, and the station will have a total of four tracks—two on the sides and two in the center. The station will have two platforms, one facing Mumbai and the other towards Ahmedabad. Additionally, the station will have a large concourse in the center, providing numerous passenger amenities.

Waiting lounges, nurseries, restrooms, retail outlets, and shopping areas are being constructed for passenger convenience at the bullet train station. Additionally, several elevators and escalators are being installed at the station to facilitate passenger access to the platforms.
The Railway Minister stated that Japanese technology is being used in this project, which will be helpful in track turnout and construction work. This technology will also prove beneficial in other infrastructure projects in the country.
