New Delhi: The Delhi Government has appointed IAS officer Kaushal Raj Sharma as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Delhi Jal Board (DJB).

This appointment has been made under Order No. 159 issued by the Services Department of the Government of Delhi, which came into effect on 06 May 2025, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

New responsibilities

Kaushal Raj Sharma, a 2006 batch IAS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, was previously stationed in NCT Delhi (SNCTD). His expertise is expected to lead to better water services for the citizens of Delhi.

He has replaced IAS officer Shilpa Shinde in this post, who has now been given a new responsibility as Commissioner and Secretary (Development) with additional charge of Secretary (Cooperation), relieving IAS Anil Kumar Singh.

Other major transfers

Under the same order, IAS officer Mr. Anil Kumar Singh (AGMUT:1995) has been retained as Principal Secretary (Services) and has been given additional charge of the Environment and Forests Department. Meanwhile, Mrs. Shilpa Shinde has taken additional charge of Secretary (Cooperation).

With new responsibility as a new CEO of the Delhi Jal Board, Kaushal Raj Sharma will have to undertake challenges like improving the water supply efficiency, enhancing groundwater levels and preventing wastage.

How has Sharma's bureaucrat career been so far?

He is considered one of the trusted officers of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,  who has already been appointed as the secretary to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

Before being send to Delhi, he was appointed as Secretary to UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath . He had served as District Magistrate (DM) and then Divisional Commissioner of Varanasi, the constituency of the PM.

Sharma, a resident of Haryana, was confirmed in service in the year 2008. Sharma, who started with field training in Bareilly, served as Joint Magistrate and Collector in Azamgarh. After this, he was posted as CDO in Lucknow.

His first posting as District Magistrate and Collector was in Pilibhit. After this, he was also Additional Land Acquisition Commissioner. Then he held the role of Special Secretary in UP Infra and IDC.

He was the DM of Muzaffarnagar and Prayagraj at different times from the year 2013 to the year 2015. Then he became the DM of Kanpur Nagar. After the Yogi government came in the year 2017, he was the DM in Lucknow.

After about two and a half years, he was transferred from Lucknow to Varanasi. Then he served as District Magistrate Varanasi and Divisional Commissioner for 6 years at different times. On April 21 itself, he was appointed Secretary to the CM.
