New Delhi: The Lok Sabha was adjourned until tomorrow without taking up the proposed no-confidence motion against Speaker Om Birla, which was the only item listed on the day’s agenda. The House is expected to witness heated proceedings when it reconvenes, as the motion against the Speaker is likely to be the first issue taken up.

Meanwhile, S. Jaishankar addressed both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha regarding the evolving crisis in West Asia. The Lower House was unable to conduct regular business due to repeated disruptions by opposition members, who raised concerns over the escalating situation in the Gulf region.

Opposition Focuses on Gulf Crisis

Sources in the Indian National Congress said the opposition bloc wanted Parliament to prioritise discussion on the impact of the ongoing conflict in the Gulf region and the safety of Indian citizens living there.

According to party leaders, nearly one crore Indians reside in Gulf countries and the Indian Ocean region, making the issue a matter of national concern.

Opposition leaders indicated they may review the situation again on Tuesday morning before deciding whether to proceed with the no-confidence motion against the Speaker.

Protests Disrupt Proceedings

Soon after the House convened, members of the Congress-led opposition moved into the well of the House holding placards and raising slogans demanding a discussion on the Gulf conflict.

Protesters also criticised the government, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of not addressing the House on the issue. Amid the protests and loud sloganeering, the House had to be adjourned twice during the day without conducting any legislative business.
