A grand idol of Lalbaugcha Raja is installed here every year since 1934. Mumbai's famous Lalbaugcha Raja Ganesh Mandal will organize its 92nd Ganeshotsav this year.
Mumbai's Lalbaug area was earlier considered a fishermen's colony. The local people here had been demanding a permanent market for a long time, but it could not be fulfilled. After unsuccessful attempts, these workers and local people together installed the idol of Ganpati Bappa here for the first time and asked for a wish from him, which was fulfilled.
The fragrance of religious fervour and devotion of Ganesh Chaturthi is flowing across the Nation. The festival celebrations begin on Wednesday 27 August to last for 10 days. According to Hinduism, Lord Ganesha is worshipped for ten days in a ritualistic manner. The day on which he is immersed at the end of the puja is considered the most auspicious day as the blessings of Ganesha are received on this day. Therefore, devotees bid farewell to Ganesha with great pomp on this day. This year, according to the Panchang, Ganpati Visarjan will take place on September 6.
