Colombo: The Women's World Cup match between India and Pakistan is scheduled today on 5 October. The match is bound to be affected by the controversy between the men's teams in the inaugural Asia Cup. The Indian team management has clarified that, unlike the men's team, there will be no handshake with the Pakistani players.
Fans are eagerly awaiting this match, but rain could disrupt the Women's ODI World Cup match between India and Pakistan. Inclement weather is expected during the match at the R. Premadasa Stadium. Colombo has been experiencing rain for most of this week, which also washed out the Sri Lanka-Australia match. Heavy rain is also forecast on October 5th.

AccuWeather reports that there is a greater than 50 percent chance of rain until 12:00 pm local time. The match will start at 3:00 pm, so any morning rain will not significantly impact play. However, the weather will remain overcast with a 99 percent cloud cover, making it impossible to rule out rain during the match. If the match is abandoned due to rain, both teams will receive one point each.
India is one of the strong contenders to win the tournament, having defeated Sri Lanka in their opening match. Pakistan, on the other hand, suffered a crushing defeat to Bangladesh in their opening match. There's always pressure in an India-Pakistan match, but India has always maintained an edge over the Green Women's team, and they will be optimistic this time around as well.
India has won all 11 ODIs played between the two teams. If the match is shortened due to rain, Pakistan will have a slightly better chance of defeating India, so they won't be bothered by a few spells of rain that could reduce the number of overs.
The Indian women's team will not shake hands with Pakistani players. This trend was started by the men's team in the Asia Cup, when they refused to shake hands with Pakistani players in protest of the Pahalgam attack. The women's team will follow suit. Indian players will not speak or shake hands with any Pakistani player during or after the match.
The Indian women's team is captained by the experienced Harmanpreet Kaur, while Smriti Mandhana is the vice-captain. The team has a good mix of youth and experience. Players like Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh, and Renuka Singh Thakur are playing key roles.
