New Delhi: Merely a-ten-year-old and born out of a movement, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) contested the first election for Delhi assembly in 2013 and uprooted the Sheila Dikshit-led Congress government, which had been in power for 15 years.

After this unprecedented victory of AAP, the political pundits believed that AAP would primarily eat up the vote share of Congress at various places. It was confirmed in the last assembly election in Delhi where AAP once again crushed Congress with no seat in assembly as a big chunk of congress vote share shifted to AAP.

After Delhi it is Punjab where AAP fought assembly election held in March 2022 and swept the polls defeating incumbent Congress government. Here too AAP grabbed the major chunk of Congress votes.

After Punjab, many political observers including BJP bigwigs were convinced that AAP could damage only Congress vote bank and not BJP’s. But the results of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) election shattered this illusion and AAP uprooted BJP’s 15-year-rule in MCD by securing majority in the 250-member-Corporation. Many political pundits consider this defeat a big blow to otherwise invincible BJP.
