Akhilesh Questions Urgency Behind SIR, Blames BJP
Lucknow: Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday leveled serious allegations against the Election Commission and the BJP government regarding the Special Summary Revision (SIR) process. He said the government is putting excessive pressure on BLOs, leading to a dire situation in many places. Akhilesh claimed, "People of West Bengal are saying that the Election Commission has blood on its hands."
Akhilesh Yadav said that BLOs are being subjected to unnecessary and undue work pressure. The wedding season is currently underway, keeping families in villages and cities extremely busy, yet they are still being pressured to fill out SIR forms.

He alleged that municipal sanitation workers are also being used as assistants in filling out the forms, which raises questions about the integrity of the system. Akhilesh said that he learned that a supervisor in Fatehpur committed suicide due to excessive pressure and mental stress.
"Why is there such a rush for SIR? The public is upset, the officials are frustrated, and the Election Commission is silent," Akhilesh said.
Akhilesh Yadav described the SIR process as a BJP strategy. He said that the BJP is misusing SIR to weaken the voter base of opposition parties.
He alleged that the BJP first weakens its allies and then eliminates them. In this context, he appealed to opposition parties to unite and oppose the "BJP's conspiracy to cut votes."
Calling SIR a conspiracy against democracy, Akhilesh said, "Today your vote is being cut; tomorrow, names will be removed from farms, land, houses, ration cards, caste, and reservations. In the future, it will reach bank accounts and the lockers of the middle-class."

Akhilesh Yadav said that the SIR process has been implemented in extreme haste, while the system was not ready on the ground.
He said that voter list purification is necessary, but it should be done transparently, not under pressure or haste.
He said that in West Bengal too, BLOs and citizens have filed complaints in many places. According to Akhilesh, "People are saying that the Election Commission's working style is leading to bloodshed and people are suffering from mental stress. This situation is extremely worrying."
Akhilesh Yadav said that this is not just a political issue, but a direct attack on the democratic rights of the country. He appealed to all opposition parties, social organizations, and citizens to raise their voices against the "irregularities" taking place in the SIR.
He said, "If democracy is to be saved, the irregularities taking place in the SIR must be stopped. This fight is not just for the SP, but for the entire country."
