Ranchi: The newly sworn-in Chief Minister Champai Soren will lead his government in seeking a vote of confidence in the state assembly.

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader and former chief minister Hemant Soren is present at this assembly session

This comes after the arrest of former Chief Minister Hemant Soren by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on charges related to a money laundering case. Despite his arrest, a special PMLA court granted Hemant Soren permission to attend the trust vote, recognising his right as a member of the assembly.

Here's all you need to know going into the Jharkhand floor test:

Champai Soren assumed the role of Chief Minister following the arrest of Hemant Soren, who was implicated in a money laundering case linked to a land fraud case.

The trust vote is essential for the Champai Soren-led government to demonstrate that it commands the majority support of the state legislators.

The ruling coalition comprises the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Congress, and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), with a total of 47 MLAs in the 81-member assembly. They also have the external support of one CPI(ML)(L) legislator.

The opposition includes the BJP with 25 MLAs, All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) party with three MLAs, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and CPI(ML)(L) with one member each, and three Independents.

Ahead of the trust vote, 37 MLAs from the ruling coalition returned from Hyderabad, where they were reportedly safeguarded against poaching attempts by the opposition.

The bus with MLAs from circuit house arrived at Vidhan Sabha along with Chief Minister Champai Soren.

Arrested former Chief Minister Hemant Soren also arrived in the state assembly in Ranchi to participate in the floor test of Chief Minister Champai Soren-led government to prove their majority.

A special court in Ranchi allowed Hemant Soren to participate in the trust vote despite vehement objections by the Enforcement Directorate.

Ranchi BJP issued a whip to their MLA's. They will hold a meeting before the special session to finalise the strategy for the floor of the house.
