Guwahati: Former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi on Tuesday said that he will speak in detail to the media why he accepted the nomination to the Rajya Sabha.

"I'll go to Delhi probably tomorrow. Let me first take the oath then I will speak in detail to the media that why I accepted this and why I am going to Rajya Sabha," former CJI Gogoi told reporters here.

President Ram Nath Kovind had on Monday nominated Gogoi to the Upper House of the Parliament, a decision which is being largely criticized by the Opposition parties.

On November 9, 2019, the five-judge bench headed by him had delivered the verdict in the long-pending Ayodhya dispute case.

Gogoi served as the 46th Chief Justice of India from October 3, 2018, to November 17, 2019. Before leaving the office, Gogoi had said that the issue of pendency of cases in Indian courts is used extensively to "pull down the institution". (ANI)
