Lucknow: The Ganga Expressway is Uttar Pradesh's longest expressway to date, spanning a length of approximately 594 kilometers. It was inaugurated by Narendra Modi. This is a 6-lane high-speed expressway, which can be expanded to 8 lanes in the future.
The greatest benefit of this expressway is that the journey from Meerut to Prayagraj will now be completed in just 6–7 hours—a trip that previously took 10–12 hours. This means travel will become easier, faster, and more comfortable.
This expressway will pass through 12 districts, including Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj. More than 500 villages will directly benefit from this project.
This project has been constructed at an estimated cost of ₹36,230 crore. It stands as one of the state's largest infrastructure projects and has been developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Vehicles on this expressway will be able to travel at speeds of up to 120 km/h. It features 21 interchanges that connect it to other highways and roads.
Additionally, there will be 9 major amenity centers for travelers, offering facilities such as petrol pumps, rest areas, and food courts.
The most unique feature of this expressway is the 3.5-kilometer-long emergency airstrip built in Shahjahanpur, where fighter jets can land in times of need. This airstrip has already been tested by the Indian Air Force.
The project includes the construction of a 960-meter-long bridge over the River Ganga and a 720-meter-long bridge over the River Ramganga. These bridges have been designed with flood-like situations in mind. 🔗 Connectivity with Other Expressways
In the future, this expressway will connect with the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, the Jewar Link, and the Haridwar Extension, thereby strengthening connectivity across all of North India.
A toll system will be implemented on this expressway. It is estimated that the toll rate for cars could be approximately ₹2–3 per kilometer. The operations of the expressway have been entrusted to private companies for a period of 30 years.
This expressway will not only simplify travel but also boost trade, employment, and regional development. It is expected to prove particularly beneficial for freight movement within a 600-kilometer radius.
