Uttar Pradesh CM issues heatwave alert
Lucknow: Amid soaring temperatures and heatwave conditions across Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday issued strict guidelines to officials, emphasizing vigilance in relief and rescue operations.
The directives call for District Magistrates, the Health Department, Electricity Department, and relief agencies to remain on high alert.
The Chief Minister instructed senior officials to closely monitor hospitals, drinking water supply, and power arrangements. Adequate facilities must be ensured in government hospitals for the treatment of patients suffering from heat-related illnesses, including heatstroke.
CM Yogi also urged the public to take precautionary measures, particularly to safeguard children and the elderly. “Wear loose-fitting cotton or khadi clothing, stay hydrated, and avoid any careless behavior that could trigger fire outbreaks,” he advised. Officials have also been asked to protect workers from fatigue, dehydration, and heatstroke.
The alert comes as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted heatwave conditions in certain areas of the state over the next 24 hours. Banda recorded the highest temperature in the country at 46.4°C, while Jhansi, Prayagraj, Hamirpur, Orai, Sultanpur, and Varanasi also saw temperatures exceeding 43°C.
The IMD reported that Lucknow’s maximum temperature reached 41.6°C, 1.4 degrees above normal, with minimum temperatures at 26.6°C. The forecast for the state capital predicts clear skies, with temperatures likely to range between 43°C during the day and 27°C at night on Monday.
Authorities have been urged to ensure water and electricity supplies remain uninterrupted and that adequate arrangements are in place to respond to heat-related emergencies.
