New Delhi: Delhi’s long-standing traffic congestion has once again become a talking point after Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi was seen travelling on the Delhi Metro during a recent visit to the capital.

A video of his metro ride has gone viral on social media, showing him moving through stations, boarding trains, and interacting casually with commuters. Dressed in a simple “Modi jacket,” he appeared to blend into the crowd during the busy travel hours.

“Fast, Affordable And Reliable” Metro Experience

During his journey to Jor Bagh, Khosrowshahi described the Delhi Metro as “fast, affordable and reliable,” highlighting its role as a backbone of urban transport in the city.

He also shared that Uber has been increasingly integrating its services with metro systems in India, enabling smoother multi-modal travel for passengers.

According to him, more than 10 million metro rides have already been booked through the Uber app in India, supported by collaborations with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).

Uber’s Push For Metro Integration In India

Uber has been working on improving last-mile connectivity by linking ride-hailing services with public transport networks. In May 2025, the company announced initiatives aimed at enabling a more unified ticketing and booking experience for metro users in Delhi.

The company believes that combining metro systems with app-based mobility solutions can reduce congestion and improve commuting efficiency in major cities.

Social Media Reacts With Humor And Relatability

The video quickly sparked a wave of reactions online. Many users joked that Delhi traffic had “defeated” even the Uber CEO, forcing him to choose the metro over road travel.

Others appreciated the gesture, noting that it reflected real commuting realities in Indian cities, where people depend on a combination of metro, buses, autos, cabs, and walking to navigate peak-hour congestion.

Some users also praised the informal and grounded nature of his visit, saying it highlighted how public transport is becoming central to urban mobility conversations.

A Glimpse Into Urban Mobility Reality

The incident has once again highlighted the importance of metro systems in easing traffic pressure in cities like Delhi. It also underlined how global tech leaders are increasingly acknowledging the role of public infrastructure in shaping future mobility.
