AI video of PM Modi mother to be removed
Patna: The Patna High Court has ordered the Congress party to immediately remove an AI-generated video depicting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's late mother, Hiraben Modi, from all social media platforms. The order comes after a video posted by the Bihar Congress sparked political controversy.
On 10 September, an AI-generated video was posted on the official X handle of the Bihar Congress, depicting Prime Minister Modi's mother in a dream. In the video, Hiraben Modi's character is seen reprimanding her son for misusing her name for political gain. In one scene, a person resembling PM Modi lies in bed and says, "Today's vote has been stolen, now sleep well." His mother then appears in his dream and advises him. The video also clearly carried the "AI GENERATED" tag.
FIR registered against Congress leader over AI video featuring PM Modi mother
The BJP called the video disgusting and an insult to the Prime Minister's late mother. The party said it not only tarnished the Prime Minister's image but also violated the dignity of women. The BJP approached the Patna High Court regarding the matter and also filed a complaint with the Delhi Police.
On September 13, the Delhi Police registered an FIR based on a complaint by BJP worker Sanket Gupta. The FIR described the video as defamatory to the Prime Minister and his mother. Action was sought against Congress leaders under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
“Insult to one mother is insult to all”: PM Modi reacts emotionally to remarks at Bihar rally
The Congress party defended the video. Party media chief Pawan Khera stated that no one was insulted in the video. He explained that the mother was teaching her child the principles of Rajdharma, and that if the Prime Minister found it offensive, it was his personal opinion. Khera alleged that the BJP was using the video to garner sympathy.
The Bihar Congress has launched an internal investigation amid the controversy to determine who was responsible for sharing the video. Meanwhile, the Patna High Court has clarified that caution is necessary in such a sensitive matter and that maintaining social harmony should be a priority.
