According to media reports, a Hyderabad businessman had placed a parcel containing 234 smartphones in the bus. This parcel was to be delivered to an e-commerce company in Bengaluru, from where the smartphones were to be delivered to customers. These smartphones were valued at approximately 4.6 million rupees. Claims of an explosion in the bus's air conditioner battery
P. Venkataraman, Director General of the Andhra Pradesh Fire Services Department, also stated that the bus's air conditioner battery exploded, in addition to smartphone batteries, further exacerbating the fire. He stated that the fire was so intense that even the aluminum sheet on the bus's floor melted. He stated that after the bus hit the bike and dragged it, petrol spilled, and as sparks flew, the bus quickly caught fire. Initially, the fire started in the front portion of the bus, which quickly engulfed the entire bus.
Venkataraman also stated that the bus's construction was flawed. He said the bus's floor sheet was made of aluminum to keep it lightweight and allow for faster speed, but it should have been made of iron. The fire damage to the aluminum sheet hampered the rescue operation and exacerbated the tragedy.
