New Delhi: The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has once again come under the international spotlight after the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of gangster Satinderjeet Singh alias Goldy Brar and named him, along with jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, in connection with the assassination of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
The latest developments form part of a broader crackdown on transnational organised crime networks operating across North America and Europe.
The renewed attention follows the FBI's decision to charge Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar with allegedly directing the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was shot dead outside a gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia, on June 18, 2023.
Nijjar's killing triggered a diplomatic standoff between India and Canada after former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged there were credible links between Indian government agents and the murder. India has rejected those allegations, while maintaining that Nijjar had been designated a Khalistani terrorist.
As part of its investigation, the FBI has offered a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to Goldy Brar's arrest.
According to the agency, Brar is wanted for his alleged role in the Lawrence Bishnoi organised crime group, which US authorities say is involved in violent criminal activities across the United States and Canada.
He faces charges including racketeering conspiracy, conspiracy to interfere with commerce through extortion and conspiracy to distribute controlled substances.
The FBI's announcement comes alongside Operation Hardball, a coordinated law enforcement action involving agencies from the United States, Canada and Europe.
According to the agency, 24 people linked to the Bishnoi, Bhagwanpuria and Dhanda organised crime groups have been arrested. The arrests include 13 suspects in the United States, three in Canada and one in Spain, while investigations continue in multiple jurisdictions.
Authorities said several suspects remain at large, with searches continuing in the United States, India and Europe.
